Thermowood Process

The Thermowood process originates from Finland, where extreme weather conditions inspired the development of this technology. During the process, wood is heat-treated at temperatures between 180–220°C using steam, making it a completely chemical-free, environmentally friendly method. The heat transforms the cellular structure of the wood: the moisture content is reduced to a minimum, resin is removed, and the cell walls of the wood are stabilized.

As a result, the wood becomes highly resistant to moisture, fungi, and pests while retaining its natural beauty and texture.

During the process, woods such as cedar, ash, poplar, or alder are heat treated at high temperatures, making them not only more durable but also giving them beautiful, deeper tones. Cedar acquires a warm reddish hue, ash an elegant darker shade, while alder and poplar offer bright, natural contrasts.
