Useful tips to enjoy your Finnish sauna or infrared sauna cabin for a long time! It's worth taking the time to maintain your sauna and infrared sauna, as this can extend their lifespan and make their use more enjoyable. To keep your sauna in the best possible condition over the long term, it's important to regularly clean and maintain it. As a first step, ensure that the interior of the sauna remains dry after use; this helps prevent the development of mold and decay. Additionally, regularly check the wood elements for any cracks or discoloration. Additionally, it is advisable to treat the wood with a suitable sealant.
General Sauna Cleaning: For cleaning your sauna and infrared sauna, it’s recommended to use chlorine-free sauna cleaners and disinfectants. It’s important to avoid chlorine-based products, as they can be absorbed into the wood structure and release harmful substances when heated. The best way to remove dust and dirt is by diluting the cleaner 100-fold and applying it to the sauna surfaces with a soft cloth.
Cleaning should ideally be combined with ventilation to keep the sauna and its surroundings fresh, preventing mold growth.
Care of Benches and Foot Grates: It’s beneficial to treat sauna benches and foot grates with paraffin oil 2-3 times a year. The type of wood may affect how often maintenance is needed, so it’s a good idea to consult the manufacturer for the best maintenance practices.
Tip: Before each use, place a towel on the bench to protect the wood from direct sweat and dirt, helping to extend its lifespan.
The exterior of the sauna heater can be wiped down with a chlorine-free cleaner, which also helps remove any limescale buildup. Take care not to get any cleaning products inside the heater. Sauna stones generally do not require maintenance and can typically be used for 5-8 years before replacement is recommended.
In general, it’s important to regularly clean and/or disinfect the parts of the sauna and infrared sauna that come into direct contact with skin. This helps prevent infections and unpleasant odors in the sauna or infrared sauna.
